Patrol & Narcotics K9 Kilo

Crash Reconstruction
Ligonier Valley Police provides round-the-clock patrol and emergency response services to the communities of Ligonier Borough and Ligonier Township. Ensuring a minimum of two patrol officers on each shift, the department delivers traffic enforcement, emergency response, fire and EMS support, and community-oriented policing throughout the valley. Additionally, Ligonier Valley Police extends patrol functions and emergency response to Laurel Mountain Borough, Laurel Mountain Ski Lodge, and Idlewild Park and Soak Zone.
The Ligonier Valley Police department has integrated K9 officer Kilo for the specific purposes of narcotics detection and patrol duties. Kilo possesses exceptional proficiency in apprehending fleeing suspects and locating missing individuals, in addition to his adeptness in detecting narcotics and lost items. As an indispensable member of the force, Kilo plays a pivotal role in ensuring public safety and providing protection. Furthermore, Kilo actively engages in community events to cultivate positive relationships within the local area. Working in close coordination with his handler, K9 Kilo is instrumental in upholding community safety.
Ligonier Valley Police provides a highly trained crash reconstruction team to investigate and determine the cause of crashes that occur in the valley. This team utilized the latest technology to obtain data, take measurements, and process the crash scene. Our crash reconstructionist officers are certified by the National Highway Safety and Traffic Association.

Special Weapons and Tactics

School Resource Officers
Ligonier Valley Police are members of the Laurel Highlands DUI Task Force. This collaboration of local police departments work together to prevent, deter, and detect DUI drivers in their respective communities through enforcement efforts. Additionally, the Laurel Highlands DUI Task Force provides enforcement funding for Aggressive Driving and Click It or Ticket efforts. The Ligonier Valley Police has the responsibility of participating in these enforcement efforts and coordinating Sobriety Checkpoints among participating communities.
The Ligonier Valley Police force is an integral part of the Westmoreland County Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, which operates as a specialized unit serving multiple municipalities under a mutual-aid agreement. Team members undergo rigorous training to effectively handle high-risk scenarios including executing search warrants, resolving standoffs with barricaded suspects, managing sniper situations, conducting crisis negotiations, addressing potential suicide incidents, and responding to other critical incidents.
The Ligonier Valley Police department has deployed two highly trained and certified School Resource Officers to the Ligonier Valley School District and Valley School of Ligonier. These officers are certified by the National Association of School Resource Officers and actively engage with the youth community, delivering law enforcement services, safety and security recommendations, informal counseling, and law-based educational programs within their respective school environments.
